BEFORE YOU FILE
We advise you to seriously consider all of your options before filing for divorce. Many times, when spouses feel caught in a tangled marriage, they believe “anything is better than this.” Sometimes that’s true, and sometimes it’s not. Once your family comes under the jurisdiction of the court, it is the law, and court procedure, that determine much of the outcome of disputed issues. Family law issues are: child custody, visitation, child support, spousal support, asset division, debt division and attorney’s fees. Although the sections listed below outline the laws, rules and procedures which will probably be applied if the matter is heard before a Judge, please keep in mind that, within limits, the parties are free to agree to something other than what a Judge might order.
